This is hard to do, but I gotta be honest.
1) Tupac : For the amount of pure bangers, he put out songs about life.
2) Cunninlynguists : Knockin beats, uncompromised lyricism untainted by desire for radio play, mellow music.
3) Eminem : He's never been known for subject matter, but his lyricism and delivery are unrivaled.
4) Juvenile : The rap game wouldn't be the same without him, glad B.G. did a feature on his new album.
5) B.O.B. aka Bobby Ray : I fucks with his music all day, if you haven't heard get on it.

Biggie was dead before I was old enough to buy CDs, and doesn't motivate me to reminisce.
Jay Z ... the nigga is just boring to listen to a whole album of. I liked American Gangster tho.
Nas ... is even more boring than Jay.

So what makes one a Top 5 MC?

@ Deuce not sure about everyone else but my list is based on: Lyrics, longevity, impact on the game/culture....I know Big and Pac don't really have longevity because their lifes were cut short but they get it because they are still relevant today. You can play either one of these guys CD's and still feel it like it just came out imo.

It is all just personal opinion, and it changes...I could easily say Immortal Technique, Devin the Dude, Ghostface, Kanye West and Common today

Deuce, I know u dont listen to hiphop anymore, but im sure u have certain cats that are your favorites, and that u feel are the best at it.

Its all personal preference, really. There can be no right/wrong answers in this type of discussion, because its all opinion. Just like with sports. MJ is widely regarded as the GOAT, but I know people who will tell you that Kareem Abdul-Jabar is the GOAT. There is no way to really quantify who is the best ever at something, because there are so many different factors. But IMO, cats would kill to have the type of career Jay-Z has enjoyed. Longevity, Flow, Hit songs, big sales, classic songs/albums, big money, popularity, quotables, copycats, respect from the elders and youngins alike... the list goes on and on like E. Badu...

Wow, I'm suprised Lil Wayne is not on anyones list. After looking at my criteria as well as some of Ryans he is now on my list, LL is off. Wayne is HUGE right now and has been for the past couple of years. He has a huge following, sold pleanty of records, he even has some classics imo. He also has a huge influence on pop cultre. When I revamp I have Jay-z, 2pac, Big, Wayne, then Dre 3000. Wayne could have easily been in my top 2 because of everything said previously as well as he is a BEAST lyrically. The resason he is not there is because of his content (doesen't really rap about shit) while my top 3 have a lot more content in their lyrics.
